How to Treat Erectile Dysfunction?

If you can’t get or keep an erection or feel pain when getting one on several occasions, contact your doctor and schedule an appointment., it could be erectile dysfunction (ED). A doctor just needs to run a couple of tests and your medical history.

The tests run include:

Physical test: this involves a careful examination of the penis, testicles and the nervous system’s sensation.

Blood tests: a sample is taken so as to check your testosterone levels.

Psychological tests: the doctor will ask questions so as to see if the issue is caused by psychological issues.

Ultrasound: it is sometimes done along with an injection of a substance that will induce an erection.

The treatment

Your doctor will focus first on taking care of any underlying issues that may be causing the dysfunction. The severity of the dysfunction will determine the type of treatment you will be put under.

Walk, 2 miles every day. It is practical for any obese man to start off with weight loss because it boosts the body’s health status. You don’t have to jog or run, just get a great playlist and a walk.

Surgery may sound extreme, but it may be the best bet on improving the blood flow to the penis by reconstructing the vascular areas.

Testosterone replacement therapy. At times ED is caused by low production of testosterone and this technique corrects it. It is done in various ways:

  • Transdermal: a skin patch known as an androdermal is placed on the upper body once a day.
  • Mouth patch: it is a pill that releases testosterone into the body via the oral tissues. It is stuck in the upper gums above the incisor.
  • Injections: it injects it straight into the muscles.
  • Implants: soft pellets are implanted in the soft tissues, allowing your body to absorb the hormone slowly into your system.
  • Oral pill; you can opt for a simpler cure that involves taking a pill. The only side effect is that it damages the liver. The other procedures get the hormone into the bloodstream directly.
  • Penis pump: this is a vacuum erection device that your doctor will advise you to use if medication is not a useful alternative. Blood is pulled in when the pump takes out the air. Once an erection is attained a ring is placed at the penis base to keep the blood flow. The pump is then removed.
  • Psychological counselling: the mind controls the entire body. So stress, anxiety or depression will inhibit an erection. Going to a therapist will improve both your mental and physical health status. A healthy body is a healthy mind.
  • Stop smoking. This is a common cause of the dysfunction, so, get a nicotine patch or gum and start your journey to full recovery.

Involve your partner each step of the way. It may be assumed that the main cause is lack of sexual interest in him/her so let them know that it isn’t the case. This is not a long-term issue, treatment will help you get your stamina back.
